More than 35,000 members in 75 different countries make up the membership of The American Society of Safety Engineers. In 2012 alone, the ASSE has led the charge to improve worker safety standards, brought the message of safety to kids with numerous youth programs, and procured thousands of dollars for PPE for workers cleaning up after Superstorm Sandy in New York.

Originally founded in 1911, the ASSE has numerous branches, membership categories and interest groups. Some of these groups are: Blacks in Safety Engineering; Safety Professionals & the Latino Workforce; Women in Safety Engineering; and Young Professionals in SH&E.

Membership consists of 151 chapters, 8 regions, 40 sections and 65 student sections.

Registration for the June 24-27 conference and expo opens in December, but event organizers are anticipating a large turnout. According to ASSE, the majority of those attending are usually experienced and high-ranking professionals. ASSE is expecting that about 78% of those attending will have more than 10 years of experience in their field. They also project that the largest group representing any given industry will come from manufacturing.

The conference’s 225 sessions will be distributed among 19 topics and will also be divided into beginner, intermediate, advanced and executive sessions. A full speaker list has yet to be announced, but Trent is certainly looking forward to seeing you there.
