72 Organizations Receive $10.7 million in OSHA Safety & Health Training Grants

  • The Occupational Safety and Health Administration awarded 72 non-profit organizations $10.7 million through the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. The training program, established in 1978, has provided safety education to 1.8 million workers. The grant program is designed to inform workers of their rights and to educate employers of their responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

OSHA Extends ‘Fall Protection’ Program in Residential Construction

  • OSHA’s temporary enforcement measures in residential construction will continue for an additional three months to December 15, 2012. The measures were implemented as part of OSHA’s fall protection program. Construction sites falls are the number one cause of workplace fatalities in this industry.

Industrial Hygiene Practices Updated by NIOSH

  • NIOSH and OSHA developed the program in 1974 under the Occupational Safety and Health Act to protect workers from dangerous gases and vapors. NIOSH followed up with updated protocols in 1995.
