NIOSH LogoLabor Rights Week: A Message from the Secretary of Labor

  • Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis declared, “Making America’s workplaces safe and fair for everyone is the hallmark of Labor Rights Week. We’re committed to ensuring that workers are safe on the job and paid what they’re owed by law,” during Labor Rights Week, August 27-31. The 2012 theme is, “’Promoting Labor Rights is Everyone’s Responsibility.” A video message can be seen at the DOL site. 

Removal Criteria for Severe Violator Enforcement Program (SVEP)

  • OSHA published the criteria needing to be met in order for a business to be removed from the SVEP. The program was initiated in June of 2010 with the goal of focusing agency resources on serial offenders. For more details, please click here

Federal Agencies Including OSHA Looking for Safety Input Towards Oil & Gas Industry

  • A who’s who of federal agencies will be meeting on September 20-21 in Texas City, Texas to discuss “the use and implementation of performance-based regulatory models for enhanced safety and environmental performance in the United States oil and gas industry.” The meeting is open to the public and those interested in attending must register online by September 5.
