OSHA LogoOSHA’s final ruling on Cranes and Derricks took effect November 8th; OSHA estimates about 4.8 million workers at 267,032 businesses will be affected by the rule.

This rule includes requirements that qualified riggers be employed for rigging operations during assembly and disassembly, and it says employers must perform a pre-erection inspection of tower cranes. In addition recordkeeping requirement now include equipment ratings, employee training records, written authorizations from qualified individuals, and qualification program audits

OSHA recently posted information to aid compliance with subpart CC of the cranes and derricks in construction final rule.

The qualified rigger fact sheet explains how to determine if a worker is qualified to load the rig for a job. The signal person fact sheet details the qualifications for workers who direct a crane under certain conditions.

OSHA’s cranes and derricks page also includes fact sheets for the rule, assembly and disassembly and operator qualifications and certification.
