MSDs in Manufacturing

According to the March NIOSH publication, the incidence rate for Musculoskeletal Disorders within Manufacturing is 41 incidents per 10,000 workers. Amongst the top sectors experiencing the greatest rate of MSD injuries per 100 full-time workers are:

  • Beverage and tobacco products (1.03)
  • Wood products (0.69)
  • Leather and allied products (0.68)
  • Primary metal (0.67)
  • Transportation equipment (0.65)
  • Furniture and related products (o.65)

There are nearly one million preventable injuries that occur each year within the manufacturing sector.

The National Occupational Research Agenda, or NORA, Manufacturing Sector Council will be working together with stakeholders and companies  to fulfill its agenda in surveillance, epidemiology, exposure assessment, etiological research, work organization and control technology to understand MSDs in the industry.

Do you work in the Manufacturing Industry and want to share your comments on MSDs and the effectiveness your facility has had in reducing injury? NORA is looking for partners in their research! See the attached paper on the NIOSH Publication Website for more information.
